Matt has worked both ashore and afloat in the maritime industry before pursuing his Masters Degree at RPI. His service in the Merchant Marines included working on Tug Boats on the East Coast of the United States, and working on clean product tankers in the Pacific Ocean; primarily along the coasts of Japan and South Korea. His responsibilities included Officer In Charge of a navigation watch, Officer In Charge of a cargo watch, safety officer, operation, maintenance and repair of deck equipment, and marlinspike seamanship. After obtaining his Masters Degree from RPI, Matt worked as an engineer for BBL and later Arcadis. Matt’s responsibilities included project management and remediation system design as well as working as site supervisor for remediation sites across the United States. Specifically Matt has worked on engineering projects that included the handling and remediation of PCB contaminated dredged materials, soil vapor extraction and air sparge systems, remediation of manufactured gas plant sites, excavation and load out of contaminated materials, groundwater pump and treat systems, residential remediation and restoration, and tidal marsh remediation and restoration.
Matt enjoys agility training with his Australian Shepherd, hiking the Adirondacks, carpentry, photography, and working on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
